East Hampton Gardens’ owner Michael Giannelli has a passion for gardening and entertaining. A long-time customer of the original East Hampton Gardens, he jumped at the chance to take over when the owners decided to retire, buying the business and relaunching the shop with a fresh new stylish perspective in summer 2017. The new East Hampton Gardens still has all of the high quality flowers and plants the store has long been known for, but Michael has broadened the offerings to include much more, creating a idyllic gardening and entertaining oasis in the heart of East Hampton.

In addition to thoroughly renovating the store and grounds, Michael established a new Flower Shop, offers professional interior design services, and brought in new outdoor furniture, garden ornamentation, and an exquisite selection of entertaining, tabletop, gift, and home décor lines—with many brands exclusive in the Hamptons to East Hampton Gardens. In the chic shop and newly renovated barn, look for collections by: The Enchanted Home, John Derian, Amanda Lindroth, Bella Cucina, William Yeoward, Kew Pottery of London, Busatti linens, Louis Sherry Chocolates, Lolli & Pops sweets, The Honey Hutch, Hampton Sun, East Hampton Garden’s own signature, best-selling candle—and more.

Michael Giannelli, Owner

Combining 30 years of experience in retail design, deep ties in the Hamptons design community, and a lifelong passion for gardening, Michael Giannelli brings his unique expertise and refined Hamptons style to East Hampton Gardens.

In his previous career in fashion merchandising and branding, Michael worked in management roles, overseeing the creative direction of top brands. His experience ranges from merchandising to managing large staffs to conceptualizing new visions for global brands including Gap, Ann Taylor Loft, and Victoria’s Secret. When it was time to leave the world of fashion and focus on a new chapter, Michael fulfilled his long-held dream of owning East Hampton Gardens.

In taking over the beloved garden center on Gingerbread Lane, Michael seamlessly continues the tradition of providing outstanding personalized service to longtime Hamptons clients while breathing new life into the business with his signature style and hands-on approach. His goal of creating a unique garden and home retail environment with a fresh focus on elegant outdoor living and entertaining has been perfectly realized at East Hampton Gardens and is steadily attracting new devotees.

The new East Hampton Gardens has become the go-to place for home and garden aficionados in the Hamptons, who are delighted by the “formally informal” sensibility Michael brings to the shop with its French and English garden-style influences. With his husband, interior designer Greg Shano, Michael has resided in the seaside community of East Hampton for more than 20 years, where their beautifully curated Hamptons home impeccably reflects a shared love of gardening and home design.
